Vermilion Lake Association Booth Busy at Boat Show

The Vermilion Lake Association (VLA) information booth was again a busy place at the Antique and Classic Boat Show at the Landing Restaurant last Sunday. Many lake visitors and current members stopped by to ask questions and to thank the group for its work to protect Lake Vermilion for future generations.

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention was a hot topic. Many sought an update on how the battle was going at Vermilion – a good news story.

The expanding VLA loon stewardship program also drew questions as visitors examined the nest platform on display. Our annual loon count – now in its 37th year – has been joined by three loon nest platforms and two chicks in 2019.

Lake association volunteers also explained other important projects to protect and improve Vermilion, including eight shore lunch sites, fisheries improvement, rough fish removal, night navigation lights, cormorant management, and shoreland restoration.
