Fishing Report from Lake Vermilion Guides League

West End Report: The Saturday walleye opener on Lake Vermilion was a beautiful day with much warmer temperatures than we sometimes get for this big Minnesota fishing event. Overall, it was a pretty good opener, starting out with a chilly Saturday morning, but it didn’t prevent the fish from biting. Some of the places the walleye were found were along the 20- to 25-foot transitions, and 20- to 30-foot transitions, and also where there is current. Most fish were found in Fall locations with these same similarities. Lindy rig seemed to be #1. Minnows were preferred over leeches. Coming in 2nd were jigs and minnows. Many anglers were still slip-bobber fishing with leeches on points, shorelines and rock outcroppings with gravel mixed. The crappies were also found in shallow, warm, muddy bays. They don’t seem to be on their beds quite yet. The surface water temperature seemed to be between 50-57 degrees.
