Lake Vermilion Fishing Report

The good fall walleye fishing is still a few weeks away as the water temperatures are still hovering in the low 60s.  The walleye bite is still mediocre, but bouncing around from spot to spot seems to be the best approach to being able to put some fish in the live well. Pike suckers and rainbow chubs are working well in 25 to 35 feet of water, but don’t put away the worms quite yet as they are still working too. Steep shoreline breaks into this deeper water seems to be the best.

Muskie fishing has been really good in the weeds. Ripping bull dogs through the deep weeds has been working well including quite a few over 50 inches in the past week.

The smallmouth bass are beginning to school up on the deep rock piles. Being able to fish these snaggy areas without losing to many lures can lead to some fast action with a lot of big fish.
